CyberLink PowerDVD 10.0.2325

CyberLink PowerDVD Editor's Review

Get the ultimate in media playing experiences with this must have media player.

It's all about the videos. Media has always been a passion for us and finding the best way to play, manage and experience media is a challenge for many. Some don't want to use mainstream tools. Others don't want to deal with what many consider bloatware. Others simply want a better experience than what is offered by standard players. This is why PowerDVD is one of the best players available. It’s a feature rich media player for Windows.

PowerDVD 11 is the ultimate universal media player that extends your viewing experience beyond just movies. PowerDVD allows you to play all your optical disc based movies, video and music, directly from your PC. Now, it also allows you to view and manage your photos from its one, superior, universal player. If you have either an iOS or Android device, you can stream content from it, your DLNA server or personal cloud to your PC, and let PowerDVD's TrueTheater technology upgrade your digital media experience.

Pros: TrueTheater, iOS and Android App Remotes, Blu-ray and 3D Support.

Cons: Expensive, especially for a media player, non-standard UI.

Conclusion: CyberLink's PowerDVD has been a huge player in the soft DVD player market for years. We've loved every version they've released and while the latest version is good, the inclusion of additional features, specifically photo viewing and management, appears to give the app a bloated feel. It took well over 10 minutes to install on a 2.3gHz Quad-core i7 PC with 8GB of RAM. Performance of the app is somewhat sluggish, especially for online features.

The application is also a bit pricey in today's app market. At $50 USD for the base version and nearly $100 for the Ultimate version, it seems as though other applications might be a better fit simply based on cost. However, the app is a solid performer and one of our favorites.
